The Falcons were Peter Illingworth's first real Group. Original members were Mick Dillworth, Mick Hamer, Peter Illingworth and Terry Walton, formed from the remains of the short lived 'Wendy and the Travellers'. This was initially an instrumental outfit, and thinning to a three piece when Terry departed. Peter then took up the microphone. The 'Fabulous' Falcons won several competitions in Lancashire, but were pipped at the post in the Finals of the Frankie Vaughan Talent Competition by The Lionel Morton Four, who became The Four Pennies for their Recording Contract Prize. David John and the Mood were an evolution of the Falcons, members Fred Isherwood, drums, Rob Dekka, electric piano, Rick Greenwood, bass guitar, Peter Illingworth, guitar, vocals and harmonica and Malcolm Fred Isherwood, drums. Shortly after singer David John Smith joined Dekka and Greenwood were replaced by Peter Atkinson, guitar and John Brierley, bass guitar. The band were signed by Eric Easton Associates, the Rolling Stones Management Agent and they recorded their first single 'Pretty Thing' for Decca Vocalion.
Purple Haze were Peter Illingworth's band following David John and the Mood, and were a three piece psychedelic outfit consisting of Peter Illingworth, Frank Newbold and Paul Varley. Check this site to learn the Purple Haze Story, and how this band evolved into Little Free Rock!
